Cessna 172s Build

Cessna 172 s

Finally I have started working on one more display model of an aircraft and this time it is Cessna 172s. I always wanted to build one for my collection and loved it for its beautiful yet simple looks.

I downloaded plan from outerzone.co.uk and print it on A4 size paper. Material I am going to use is strene sheets of different thickness. I prefer styrene sheets also called as H.I.P. sheets as they are very easy to use. Sheets can be sanded, glued very easily.

Length of a model is 21cm

Wingspan is 30 cm

I cut the outline as per the plan to build the fuselage, tail, rudder, elevator etc. Glued papers on the 1mm styrene sheet and cut it as per the outline and two sides are ready. Fueslage was sanded from all corners for smoother looks. Then comes tail and the elevators. Both are sanded to give proper aerofoil shape.

Here are few pics of model.

Now I have started working on the wings. I cut the styrene as per the plan. Perfect aerofoil shape is must otherwise model will not look good. I used my heatgun to bend the styrene it worked well. But strangely when I applied glue on the curved styrene on the edges it started cracking. I decided to use galvanized aluminium sheet to use for wing construction. Aluminium sheet is thin and easy to fold.

I will be updating detailed construction of wing soon ......
